If English is NOT your native language you will see some problems with translation here because it IS my native language. Please excuse my translation. If you would like to help and give me a correct translation in your language please e-mail it to me as a graphic file to email@example.com. I will send you a free current edition of the Universal TransPics.
There are three types of words in all languages - things, concepts, and modifiers.
For a thing you can point to anything or any picture. A concept like a question, size, relationship to another item or desires or emotions are harder. Modifiers change the item or concept to show variations. Concepts and modifiers are harder to communicate without language.
The better you are at a foreign language the more you can use sound. With less knowledge you must use actions or pictures. The Universal TransPics is not supposed to do everything. It is to help you through some problems and work with your other efforts at using pictures, gestures, drawings, a few words and what ever else you do to communicate in a foreign language. It is supposed to be small enough to go in your pocket for quick use
Lets show some examples.
I want to cook eggs, sausage and potatoes for breakfast in the morning.
How far is it to (this address) and how long will it take to get there?
(this address). (this address)
I am tired. Where is my room and where can I take a bath or shower?
I would like for dinner some shrimp, potatoes, bread and a salad, some hot tea with milk and sugar to drink and some cake and ice cream for dessert. Do you accept Visa or MasterCard? Please bring some extra catsup.
Where is the train station? What time does it leave for (this location)? How much does it cost and how long will it take to arrive there?
I lost my group. They are supposed to meet me at (this location). How do I get there?
I would like a light green blouse in size 8? How much is it? This is too big, do you have a smaller one?
I have high blood pressure. I've been feeling dizzy and have pain in my chest and an upset stomach and diarrhea. I noticed a bug like this bit me.
As you can see, the better you know where each picture is and how you can use it, the better you will communicate. It takes some practice to use this effectively. Once you do, you can use it for any language and not have to learn a new set of sounds for a new language. Practice using it for a few days with other people to get used to it before you need it to speak to someone in another language.
